Ideas for improving Mastodons CWs to make them work better for everyone.
Instead of having a user try to imagine what could trigger someone perhaps it would be more productive to encourage all users to tag their posts with things such as politics, abuse, nsfw, etc. This provides two benefits
1. Posts can be easily filtered with added CWs or muted for users who desire it
2. Posts are better categorized for searching
And instances could have default CW tags list that could be edited by users
@ti I might be wrong but I think there's an intention not to make posts searchable, as a means to avoid harassment/trolling. I remember reading this somewhere but unfortunately can't remember where!
So if you tagged all posts, they'd then become searchable. You might not wish your posts tagged e.g. #mentalhealth to be easily discoverable. There might be other mechanisms to prevent that though.
@neil perhaps people could opt out of having their posts indexed entirely if they are concerned about that. Or, although probably harder to implement, no indexing on a per post basis
