Just voted to withold on the REI board candidates. Having someone with more experience with labor negotiations would make sense for the co-op, and I'm disappointed that they blocked that candidate from the board.
Grateful to these journalists who explained the situation in a detailed and balanced way.

@natematias I voted to withhold as well, based on another story I read. I didn't know about the Cascade PBS story, thank you for sharing.
@natematias I also voted to withhold
@natematias happy to say I joined the crowd here to withhold my vote. Looking forward to reviewing this story now.
@natematias 45 years as a co-op member. I voted NO on all candidates.
@ViennaMike @natematias 44 here. Joined at the original store in Seattle as a (British!) teenager in 81. Also voted withold on all 3 candidates. Sad days for the co-op.
@natematias
I tried to, but apparently I hadn't spent any money in 2024, so I didn't get a vote. Apparently I need to buy some trinket every year just to keep my vote active.
@TheGreatLlama @natematias yes - it said $10 in 2024 or new membership. That excludes a lot of people probably. Interesting definition of a coop
@dxzdb @natematias
I can sort of understand having a limit: for instance, my 80 year old father probably hasn't shopped with them in well over a decade. One year seems fairly restrictive though.
@TheGreatLlama @natematias Yeah - and preventing people from being on the ballot makes no sense for almost any organization. Even if they had minimal chance of winning - there was a 100% chance of enraging some - which it did!
