Need to understand. Or whatever one does/is a part of in place of "understanding."

"form itself is , emptiness itself is form"

I'm tryin', but I just don't understand</Dolores>

@muninn Think of reality as process -- there is nothing truly static, and everything is constantly changing. That is true even when things appear stable and permanent.

Understanding the metaphysical truth of emptiness will then allow you to act it out in ethics and aesthetics. The point of zazen is also to acquire a non-conceptual understanding of emptiness.

@willtochaos All forms are by nature transient and thus empty?

I'm still so early on the path, with only a lifetime of undirected observation behind me

@muninn Indeed. In western philosophy, this understanding was expressed by Heraclitus (a man does not step twice into the same river, for both river and man have changed) and later by Hume and Hegel (through dialectics) in different ways.

That everything is constantly Becoming and in flux, that is the meaning of emptiness.
