I went to see the band years ago. Maybe at the Princess Charlotte pub in Leicester.
Anyhoo, the DJ was playing AC/DC and leatherface, who were headlining, came out and waited on stage.

The DJ turned the AC/DC off and says 'put that back on, I was listening to that.' And so the AC/DC tune comes back on for another 2 or 3 minutes, after which Frankie says 'I love AC/DC', and they start the gig.

We all need an attitude.

@mikehaber ah, I miss The Charlotte. What a fine, fine venue it was. Probably instrumental (no pun intended) in the state of my hearing as I now approach 50 😂

@WiteWulf Yeah it was great. I think I saw The Wannadies , Dead Inside, Chumbawamba, Leatherface and probably a load more. I knew how to drive there, but I had no idea where it was in relation to anywhere else in Leicester.

Derby Wherehouse was similar. I could drive from Nottingham the the venue, or Nottingham to Derby storm skatepark, but not from the skatepark to the venue, without driving first driving back to nottingham. 🙂
The Vic in Derby is still open.

Off to see High Viz Nottz soon.

@mikehaber I was based in Nottingham since ‘93 so most of my gigs were at Rock City/Rescue Rooms/Social, but we had outings to The Charlotte for bands that didn’t play Nottingham. Lots of Jesus Jones, Carter USM, Cud, etc. We go to The Musician in Leicester quite often, now.

Only ever went to the Wherehouse once, but it has a special place in my heart as the location of my first ever Cardiacs gig 🥰

@WiteWulf I've been to the Musician once... I've been to the Voodoo lounge in stamford a bit recently.
Went to lots of gigs at the Vic in Derby around 2000. I forgotten more stuff than I remember, which is probably how it should be. Lots at Rock City, the old angel, bunkers hill. Rescue Rooms in a couple of weeks with the youth, 14+ show....

@mikehaber ah, nice, I seem to be at more shows with my 15yo than for myself these days! I’m making the most of it while he still needs/wants me at gigs with him.

Bunkers and Angel were more the sort of venues I’d be playing at, rather than watching, 25 years ago. Used to play Hippo, Double Bubble, Old Vic, Narrow Boat and many other pub upstairs and back rooms😀 #old

@WiteWulf I'm not sure I ever went to Hippo or double bubble...I saw some bands at Narrowboat IIRC.....

At the moment the youth comes to some gigs, Wonk Unit at the Social had lots or sweary crowd sing alongs which was fun :-)

I'm totally out of the loop for gigs right now. Probably for good :-/

@WiteWulf @mikehaber it was my "local" for the four years I lived and worked in Leicester. I saw So Many Great Gigs and I never had to pay to get in 😁

@greem @WiteWulf I think I've always had to pay. Although I did used to go to the old angel in Nottingham and get given the skeletor mug, so there is that :-)

@mikehaber @WiteWulf it was a venue to venue thing; I worked at the old Poly SU. The folks from the Charlotte used to come to our gigs and we used to go to theirs.

Andy, who owned the place, died very suddenly a few years ago. Massive loss to the city's culture, he'd given many a local band a leg up (and a few that were from further afield).

My wife is convinced I decided to name our youngest after the pub. If so it was entirely unconscious 🤪

@greem @WiteWulf Totally coincidence. My lad could be named after Frankie Stubbs....
