Anybody know of #autonomous or #selfgoverned communities like the #zapatistas elsewhere in the world, outside of Mexico?
@clayton wow I had no idea thanks!
@michaelafisher I think @emily may know. She has been in Chiapas and elsewhere documenting her work.
@h @michaelafisher thanks, H! She and I have talked about this actually, lol. I've got a list of all I've visited, though wikipedia I'm guessing prolly has an autonomous zone list article...
@emily Glad for the non-introduction then :-) @michaelafisher

@michaelafisher @h yup --> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permanent_autonomous_zone?wprov=sfla1 check out temporary autonomous zones, too!
@michaelafisher parts of cities can be somewhat autonomous, like Exarcheia and Freetown Christiana; just like Chiapas there is still interference from the government
@owen yesss I've been to Exarcheia and it's awesome. Need to check out Freetown Christiana
@michaelafisher guess it depends what you are looking for - maybe some larger intentional communities would be interesting? Particularly if you look back through their history.

Theres also stuff written about areas in some countries which are somewhat autonomous due to limited government resources and the population being happy to somewhat avoid being governed.
@dazinism thanks for these articles!! I keep thinking that I need to go to India.. Maybe I'll go and check out Auroville
@michaelafisher Rojava shares a lot of similarities to the Zapatistas.
