I live near a lake with a road that is popular for biking, and I've been sitting in the garden many times hearing rather loud yelling between bikers.

And at times I've been annoyed. But each time I've then heard a motorcycle race by and realized what the real problem is! ;)

@jennitaur tbh, Ifeel a tang of understanding. Where I live, lots of cyclists are passing by on their way to do some mountain biking in the forest. And they are shouting at each other all the time in the way of conversation. When I’m sitting in my garden, trying to read, this is really annoying, because it happens so often. The cyclists, of course, do not know how loud their conversation is for me. Of course, I do not know whether the road sign has a similar context.

@jennitaur The problem is that they are so used to hearing traffic noise the no longer actually "hear" it, but voices are "strange" and therefore scary. We lived near a hospital for a while, and after a bit the sirens faded and didn't actually disturb us.
