Using #emacs has been hurting my wife's hands, and she has trouble remembering #vi commands that aren't :w and :q, so I suggested she try #joe. There's no GUI version, but she doesn't mind running it in a terminal.

She loves it. I've become rather fond of it for writing text myself.

@starbreaker joe is especially useful for people who were used to the Wordstar editor conventions that were very popular in the 80s and early 90s.

It may still be intuitive for many people.
