@paulfree14 > How can the fediverse play a role in countering the ?

The fediverse is decentralized, which means local traffic remains local and so uses less routers and less energy.

@dessalines For the first time, I had a question which was not answered by Stackoverflow, but by HN.

I know that the Mastodon documentation is not perfect, but we need to be able to find
answers. We need Q&A. Shall we open a discussion with Snowdrift for funding? Perhaps the alternative could be mastodon.social/@Gargron/10146

@aral
Brilliant. Let's promote this. Was this why you were also looking into OpenCollective?

It's not going to be cataclysmic. It will just be many problems in so many places that none of them can be solved anymore. And help will become practically impossible.

RT @ajplus
G20 countries produce about 80% of global CO2 emissions.

10 years ago, they agreed to phase out subsidies for fossil fuels to help fight global warming.

A report from @NRDC shows they have almost tripled subsidies to coal plants — the most polluting fossil fuel — since 2014.

@wolftune @aral @snowdrift @laura I'm in the EU like Aral and I'm interested if there is no VC involvement. My interest may extend to XR, like with the joinmobilizon.org/en/ project ATM.

@aral @wolftune
Unfortunately there are interesting fediverse projects that do not get funding, like fediQuest by
@MatejLach

Some stars in the fediverse seem to get some funding from Samsung (no less) but perhaps we do need an OpenCollective for all the rest.

Hi @aral I contacted snowdrift @wolftune but they weren't sure if they were going to use it. Any news on this Aaron? Thx

RT @KrVaSt
Temperatures are about to reach 30°C in the whole Siberian permafrost-area during the next 2 weeks.
Unprecedented for such a long period, this early in the summer.

@greenfediverse There are a lot of factors involved, but think about the Raspberry Pi. Although it was designed for education, it is a fully functional computer. My rule of thumb is when software doesn't run on it, it is obviously not efficient enough. I'd also be interested in the responses you get.

Some fragments from today's media discourse:

UK: It is far too expensive to save the planet

USA: Mass existential threat is a political "single issue"

NL: Everyone is going to pay the same carbon tax
