I'm searching for an open-source #ebook reader app for #Android, to replace the Kindle app. I don't really care what formats it supports, so long as #Calibre can convert to them.
But I do want full screen, night mode, font size/color control, etc. Booky McBookface is off to a good start, but not there yet.
There doesn't appear to be much else on #FDroid?
@gdorn FBReader? Ooh, apparently that's no longer open source, well the old code is still available, but new versions aren't.
Hmm, all I can see is something called just 'Book Reader' https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.axet.bookreader/
I haven't tried it, but it says it is based on FBReader and that had all the features you listed.
@thiskurt I did end up using Book Reader, but it either lacks a true full-screen mode or I couldn't find it. It's pretty good anyway.
@thiskurt FBReader is still on FDroid, so I think the core might still be open source. I don't need any non-free plugins, and otherwise it seems to do what I want. FDroid's search just isn't that good.
@gdorn Have you tried FBReader? The F-Droid version has certain add-ons disabled, but it's still customisable, AFAIK (I don't actually use it)
@dajbelshaw FBReader does appear to be the best option. It just didn't show up in a search on fdroid for "ebook reader".
@gdorn No, I was surprised too. But I just went through every single app. There's not that many ;)
@gdorn
I tried to find a good ebook reader. Unfortunately FBreader had some usability issues. I ended up going proprietary with moon reader, whixh, while ad supported, provided a better experience.
@gdorn
I do know nothing about #ebook formats, but I'm using and liking this one (me just using pdf, but it has some other formats)
