remember kids, watching television rots your brain and turns you into a normie

@gc who decides which media is acceptable consume and which media rots your brain? Mad Men is the best fucking work of art around but it didn’t turn me normie and if anything exposes how hollow and empty the capitalist ideal turns out to be.

@gc doctor who was also how i powered thru one of the darkest depressions of my life over winter break 2012. i worked in a used bookstore. books are every bit as trash as tv, but no one says a book will rot your brain

@zuccmezaddy I'm not arguing that media has literally no use value whatsoever, and I agree w you re: trash books.

my point was that the passive consumption of media, regardless of the medium, is fundamentally an act of complacency, and is the quintessential trait of the normie (also known as the consumer, in business speak.)

while we will always do both, it is always better to create rather than to consume. our ability to create ideas, to make things, is what makes us human

@gc but what about the ability to rest and enjoy the fruits of our creation? the wasp constructs her nest, but, as far as we know, she doesn’t reflect on its beauty
