Someone on here pointed out that adults lament the loss of the creativity of our childhood, but we lost it because we're tired and stressed out all the time.
I could contribute more to the world GMing TTRPGS, or learning to write poetry, or any of a long list of silly projects, rather than sitting at work logging in and out of things and watching progress bars and copying serial numbers into spreadsheets and generally not being able to concentrate on anything for more than a few minutes.
@foolishowl Exactly this. I weep every time someone says "I wouldn't know what to do with myself without work", because that's a sign they've forgotten how to enjoy the work that isn't work.
Boring adults aren't natural, they're made.
@swiftone @foolishowl In general, I like my work. I do what I always wanted to do and, on a good day, it is fulfilling.
I absolutely fail to comprehend making my work my whole personality. There are SO MANY things I love doing that I don't have the time for. Hell, there are so many things I would love to learn to do that I have no idea if I would enjoy. If I was independently wealthy and working was optional, I would go do a million other things.
