After I removed the cruft, my accomplishment seems less significant. :/ Meh, whatever. I'm still proud of myself. I finally feel like a rustacean!

I built a simple CLI in Rust to generate a Markdown version of the Bullet Journal Monthly Log page. Because... of course I did. I think I'm finally starting to get the hang of lifetimes.

I feel like "I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking about _____'s ownership system" basically sums up a core characteristic our instance's membership...

I couldn't sleep last night because I was thinking about Rust's ownership system. I like that everything is so explicit. Rust never copies data unless you tell it to. That's a nice relief from other languages where you're never really sure if a function call copies the data.

We had one of those moments, my wife said, "Did you see what I shared... Oh fuck you're not on Facebook".

Hey! If you're new and reading this, remember that you don't need to bring your old behaviors from birdsite and fb to here.

We enjoy genuine conversation, because we can fit in all the words, finish our train of thoughts.

Get to know your community, and how they behave. See if you find something new and novel.

Ooo. This maybe what is needed to build that. The properties described in the background are perfect for storing encrypted federated social network posts.

For instance, if I wanted to run a private Mastodon instance for friends, I could read their PMs. Basically I want a social network where friends exchange keys and posts are encrypted between us. Surely this isn't a new idea.

Is there a social network that encrypts posts so that only the people in your network can read them. i.e. not even the admins of the server can read them.

Settled on this metric which boils down to:

L(G) = Number of predicate conditions + Number of nested blocks + 1

I settled on this metric over others because it proves my point ;)

How you doing? I'm reading papers on software complexity metrics to prove that our in house ad-hoc style guide is bunk.

Greetings to everyone currently coming to mastodon from facebook! ::waves::

I've decided to exit Facebook and get serious about Platform Cooperativism. I'm excited to see how this works.

The social network of the future: No ads, no corporate surveillance, ethical design, and decentralization! Own your data with Mastodon!
