@MoonSquares I’m making these bots using the excellent R Mastodon library because I just code everything in R if I can possibly get away with it github.com/ThomasChln/mastodon

@ozjimbob @MoonSquares I have tried to get into R three times, (when I get some new data analysis task that I don't have a library for, so possibly not the best times).

Average less than 2 days, before I give up and code what I had to do in Python or Java instead. Next time it might stick.

Have a colleague at work who is sticking with R for data analysis stuff so have someone to bounce questions off

@merospit @MoonSquares well, use whatever you’re most comfortable and productive in, I reckon. I get a bit weary of the Python vs. R fights that some people get involved in (although I can’t imagine doing data analysis in Java, that language frightens me).

@ozjimbob @MoonSquares I don't like fights about languages. I prefer to know many languages and pick the one I want to use today. Java and Python were my first languages at uni many years ago, so they don't take any effort to use, even for data analysis

@merospit
Fighting over languages is like getting in an argument over a hammer.
@ozjimbob

@merospit
Everyone knows the mallet is a superior hammer. You only need a claw hammer if you're bad at hammering.
@ozjimbob

@ericmoritz @ozjimbob I like the flexibility of being able to rip things to shreds and put them back together again with the same tool

@merospit
You wouldn't have to rip things apart if you built it right the first time. I bet you don't even use blueprints do you?

(Tell me to stop if this is getting too real ;))
@ozjimbob

@ericmoritz @ozjimbob It's all good, I am agile, so no such thing as the "first time". We rip it apart and build again instead of refactoring it in place so we lost track of the first iteration long ago

Follow

@merospit
Dropping the jerk facade, I totally again. The first time solves yesterday's problem.
