:boost_ok: :ablobcatwave: Please boost this post if you would like the EFF to join the fediverse. :ablobcatbongo:

In a survey the EFF sent me, I suggested they create an account on the fediverse, so they can reach more supporters and support innovative free software that promotes interoperability among platforms, something they've advocated for in the past, too.

If you can boost this post, maybe I'll be able to show them that there are quite a few users who would like them here!

The EFF is the infamous nonprofit organisation that fights for privacy, government transparency, and digital freedom. Their fight is very important, and the EFF is very special to me.

You can see some of their work here

In the meantime, you can follow @eff, which is an unofficial mirror of their Twitter.

Thought I’d be a bit more productive this weekend, but this challenge has been a bit more consuming than I thought it would be...

If you're anything like me, the idea that you could function in a cooperative network with over 20,000 members that has over 300 meetings a year where there is no voting and everything is up for discussion and anyone can participate... doesn't compute but is SO EXCITING to think about!

I'd love to explore how reading about their organization made YOU feel as a co-operator! What appeals to you? What makes you shudder?

Check this out! Cecosesola is a remarkable organization in Venezuela, featured in Free, Fair and Alive by Bollier and Helfrich.

"Office Hours" this week will be hosted by @emi on March 3rd at 9pm Eastern/4th at 02:00 UTC as a discussion of "Cecosesola: Towards a Collective Mind"

The event will take place on this link:

Cecosesola is an amazing 'educational process' based in Venezuela. Picture the Utopian anarchists of Anarres from The Dispossessed in a community on Earth.

With 23000 members, 1300 full time employees, a turnover of ~$100 million USD annually, they supply food, healthcare, funeral and financial services for 55,000 families in the states of Lara and Trujillo.

I'm hosting a reading group session during office hours on the following paper on 3/3/2021!

It was a beautiful sunrise on Mt Kinpu in Chichibu national park. Breezy 95km/hr winds and -14C windchill to shake loose the cobwebs and knock out the stale air.

COVID and Cooperation in NYC: 2020 in Review
by Cheyenna Layne Weber and Ali Issa

奮闘するニューヨーク市の協同組合(ニューヨーク市協同組合経済同盟 総合コーディネーター アリ・イッサ 同事務コーディネーター シャイアナ・レイン・ウェーバー)

Quite frustrating to hear a male journalist asking why female journalists are not participating more actively in protesting the current state (strikes etc.).

This needs to be a concerted effort where we need to question why more in our collective society aren't standing alongside these women.

There's a press conference happening in English/Japanese at the moment about the state of women in media in Japan:

I love the @geosocialcoop newsletter and this article they cross posted on it was just the kind of pick me up I needed to continue pounding out the emotional labour to contribute to the greater movement of cooperative development.

It helps SO much to see the power of solidarity grow and incubate and support one another.

If anyone is looking for yet another free webinar to poke their head into, @chiematsumoto and I will be presenting on the media landscape in japan and our newly launched media cooperative at a event called “The Future of Media in Japan”.

I think there are 10 tickets left? 11:30-12:30pm JST.

Just joined a new co-op! -- "a cooperative of journalists and readers committed to covering news and views of the underrepresented and marginalised and to create a new way of reporting through independent, uncompromising, quality journalism. Our focus is on social issues through the perspective of real lives."

I encourage anyone interested in Japanese labor and social movements to subscribe and support this pathbreaking cooperative.

We're evolving the governance features of karrot and looking for examples of existing community guidelines, rules, agreements, etc.

This is to make sure the model we come up with will be usable for a range of different groups with different approaches.

Any you can share with us?

To get the ball rolling the noisebridge ones are a good example for us to look at -->

Boosts for visibility welcome!

The 3 pillars of present centralization and hierarchy, (patriarchy, capitalism and colonialism) are rarely acknowledged in the DAOs or blockchain spheres, where nothing is done to address the basic structural realities.

...To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns, to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to violence. The frenzy of our activism neutralizes our work for peace. It destroys our own inner capacity for peace. It destroys the fruitfulness of our own work, because it kills the root of inner wisdom which makes work fruitful.”
