#introduction Um so hi. My name is Diyar and I like tech and stuff. Would be down to join in on projects and do stuff with people. Currently living in London. Still in full time education so I don't have a tonne of time. I am not really interested in making video games but I do enjoy playing them a bit (just got out of silver on CSGO). I run an arch-based distro btw. I am okay at python but down to learn other languages like basic or C too.
I thought I wouldn't have to touch vim. I think I need to now. Not much other option for IDE for golang. Oh god. What do I do?! I don't want to learn 6 shortcuts just for editing and saving a document. I think it is time for me to just red pill up and trash on all text editors already and go the path of boomers and learn vim already. Using as an IDE is probably haram but I don't care.
FSF endorsed distros don't support non-free software and have no non-free software in their repos but you could still pretty easily run non-free software. Is there an OS out in the world where it simply cannot run non-free software to the extent of auto-checking license for that software on the internet and only running programs that it is able to read the source of and so on. I think that would be a cool, dumb, awesome thing.
We pay to Steam, Netflix, Amazon prime, Spotify. But not to Wikipedia, Archive.org, Librivox, Project Gutenberg, for our favourite Linux distro.
The huge asymmetry between corporate and community has not emerged naturally. It is a product of our choices of not supporting community oriented projects.
The short conveniences vs the long-term good. We always chose the former.
In face of surveillance capitalism, we must and must change.
uk police death stats
Just stumbled over this and it's worth knowing. Interesting how the header makes it sound far worse than the 4.705 deaths per year it actually is.
You look at the header and it implies that that the 1600 police deaths are recent, but it's really the total number of all police officers who have ever died on duty since we literally had a police force in 1680.
Not only that, but if you go to the website itself https://www.policememorial.org.uk/rollofhonour.php and stick a random year in most of the deaths aren't even vaguely related to policing at all, it's all traffic accidents and heart attacks while commuting.

world pol, war on privacy, dirty money
all this rabid hunger worldwide to crack down on free speech, on privacy, worries hand wringing about the children &c. going dark keeps being proclaimed to be the threat.
but meanwhile trillions of dollars of suspect dirty money moving through the system, being reported to Financial Crimes Enforcement (FinCEN). and so little action. ships flying flags of convenience, money moving unchecked. this isn't a going dark problem. it's the world dis-order at a much higher level, a lack of ability to use the information we do have, the important core key information, about a lack of even basic guardrails for the extreme wealth on this planet.
but they aren't going after the big problems. they, Barr & governments worldwide, want us insecure, unable to converse among ourselves.
