There's an amazing number of #ActivityPub #alternatives now available or under development:

Twitter -> @Mastodon and #Pleroma

Instagram -> @pixelfed and @anfora

YouTube -> #PeerTube ( @Chocobozzz )

Soundcloud -> @funkwhale

MeetUp -> @GetTogetherComm

Medium -> #Plume ( @BaptisteGelez )

Reddit -> @prismo and Anancus ( @tuxether )

LinkedIn -> @cloutstream

Google Calendar -> @calendar_social

Anything missing from the list? What else is needed?

#Federation #Fediverse

@switchingsocial @Mastodon @pixelfed @anfora @Chocobozzz @funkwhale @GetTogetherComm @BaptisteGelez @prismo @tuxether @cloutstream Pretty much all these services are for sharing info publicly. I am really looking forward to something where I can post privately, for family and friends. You know, Facebook.

Diaspora is much more like that, however their road towards activitypub support looks like it's going to be long and slow.

@Blort @teleclimber

Friendica ( @news ) is maybe a better bet, it is a Facebook-style social network due to get ActivityPub at some point in the future (though at the moment they're focusing on a big database update). Also, Friendica is already compatible with Mastodon through another protocol.

Diaspora sound like they don't want to use AP at all?

TBH I keep hearing about #Friendica, #Matrix, #Hubzilla, #Zot etc, and they all(?) seem to be related to each other, but I'm not quite sure how, so I'm never sure which to really follow/use. Maybe @macgirvin could link to something explaining more...

Matrix is a completely different project. Something like Slack or Discord

is a communications protocol (like ) which friendica and hubzilla use.

has more functionality than and is set to get the latest federation goodness from zot development sooner. They do however have a different focus, though somewhat overlapping.
