Small business association: "No we don't loan money to small businesses. Don't be ridiculous. That would be a government handout. What we do is give free money to rich people so that they can loan it to you."

@datatitian It me too long to see the pattern, but that seems to be how we do almost everything in the US. Government assumes risk, and ensures windfall profits to private investors.

@datatitian the gov goes through the banks / lenders so as not to have to deal with the overhead of interacting and vetting every single recipient of the loan. Banks / Credit Unions / community development projects are more accessible and have a physical or digital footprint in their local communities, unlike the SBA.
