Does anyone have any recommendations on #diy air conditioners?
I'm not allowed to use a window air conditioner in my apartment, but we have furry pets who are going to melt this summer unless we figure something out. I can probably swing a portable AC, but they're like $500 and aren't as effective as window air conditioners.
I've seen ice + fan conditioners, but I'm not sure whether that's #sustainable or whether it'll just burn a ton of electricity trying to freeze ice every night.
Ideas?
@BeechMtn Thanks anyway! I'm trying out a simple evaporative cooler with a fan and a sink of water -- we'll see whether/how it actually works!
@christianbundy Good luck! Those types of coolers would not work well in summer where I am, but they are great in other places where the humidity is lower I've heard. Hope it works well for you.
A portable will be less worse compared to a window unit than anything DIY with ice and evaporation will be worse than a portable.
@christianbundy I have a spare portable you'd be welcome to, but I'm on the other side of the country. :/ I've seen a few of the hacks online but have no idea how well they work.
