Hello, world! We are Bunk Computer Cooperative -- a worker-owned technology #coop in Western North Carolina. We're building local computing infrastructure that's of and for Western #northcarolina
We're still getting off the ground, but we've been hard at work the last eight months and we're ready to introduce ourselves. We wrote an #introduction blog post that you can read at the link in our bio, and we'd be thrilled if you did! Boosts Appreciated!
Yours in bits and bytes,
Bunk Cooperators
Sticker shoutouts to @frameworkcomputer @calyxinstitute @dnsoarc @NewEllijayTV and @prahou
Thanks for the intro, greetings from WNC!
@craige might be of interest!
@bunkcomputer Is Bunk short for Buncombe County? Wishing y'all every success!
@AnarchoNeighbor Yes it is! It's doing a few things. If you say "Bunk Computer" out loud, you end up saying "Buncombe", so it's a play on that. It's also a nod to the historical origins of the word "bunk" short for "bunkum" as slang for "nonsense" or "BS", which comes from a North Carolina congressional representative's 1820 speech. And finally it is of course a nod to the fact that sometimes computers are just kind of bunk(um)

@bunkcomputer What is local computing infrastructure? Is it basically computers that people can use? Is it like a library?
@sashin we want to leave the door open to many possibilities, but the thing we're focused on right now is local email and office suite, like G-Suite but open source and run by a cooperative
