US electoral politics, being a nerd about numbers

If you want to see some numbers that might blow your mind:

This has all of the public early voting data available.

It's...kind of amazing. Here's one small nugget:

In North Carolina, there have already been 3.8 million votes cast between early voting and returned mail-in ballots. That's 81% of the total votes cast in 2016. Not only is that a huge number, a 26% of those early votes are cast by people who did not vote in the state for the 2016 Presidential Election. Either they didn't live there, weren't eligible or simply did not vote.

Given this early vote data, plus the responses in polls compared to previous elections, plus the record mid-term turnout in 2018...I am really firmly coming to believe that the turnout might actually be the highest in a century...and that's despite the right's continuing voter suppression manuevers.

The "bonus seed goop" that I put in a pot didn't have to go through the drying process, and is already sprouting up.

Day 4

This is a day after filling the planter with water, after letting the seeds dry out and stick to the planter for two days.

You can see the seeds starting to sprout.

Japanese honey bees have developed a defense against Asian giant hornets: if a hornet invades, the bees envelop it, beating their wings furiously until they cook and suffocate the hornet to death.

Unfortunately honey bees and native bees in N. America do not have this defense.

When the so-called president goes on TV and tells the Proud Boys to "stand by", this is the shit he's stirring up.

Vote him out. Alicia's and all our lives depend on it.

The FBI visited my house today. They arrested a man in Idaho on weapons charges who they believe was affiliated with white supremacist groups. They found my name on a list in his home, alongside others.

As a bonus, since I had some left over chia seed goop, I put it in a pot. We'll see what happens!

Chia Unicorn, Day 1.

Now we wait for two days for the seeds to dry out on the planter.

State and local elections officials are investigating, and the Orange County DA is involved, after unauthorized ballot drop boxes with apparent ties to the GOP started popping up throughout the state. and I have the story:

Everyone complains about politicians. Everyone says they suck. But where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky; they don't pass through a membrane from a separate reality. They come from American homes, American families, American schools, American churches, and American businesses. And they're elected by American voters. This is what our system produces, folks. This is the best we can do.
