"As you can see, this is not a uniform experience of chaos. For some people it destroys their bodies, others their hearts, but for most people it’s just a low-level hum at the back of their minds."

"If you’re waiting for a moment where you’re like “this is it,” I’m telling you, it never comes. Nobody comes on TV and says “things are officially bad.” There’s no launch party for decay. It’s just a pileup of outrages and atrocities in between friendships and weddings and perhaps an unusual amount of alcohol."

This article from someone who lived through the end of Sri Lankan civil war, comparing it to the current US situation is 💯:

I'm working on site today for the first time in weeks and have discovered that nature is reclaiming our offices.

My keynote for ActivityPub Conference 2020 is now online a few days before the conference begins! Since it's a fully remote conference, the idea is you can (should?) watch the talks before the interactive/live sessions later this week.

Here's the keynote, which is about ways to provide value to users that CANNOT be re-centralized by the big corporations: conf.tube/videos/watch/b8d6c88

And all the other talks, which I'm excited to watch: conf.tube/video-channels/apcon

*You* are what is beautiful with the world

Thank you.

Interesting counterpoint (in-depth thread) to the Atlantic article that has been making the rounds.

Ok. Okaaay.

I didn't want to respond to the Atlantic piece about how Trump can steal the election by flipping electors in states with GOP held legislatures, but I will.

Here's my take.

This translation of the US Declaration of Independence into modern language is 💯 and also uncannily terrifying in the way that it puts our current situation into relief. 🙀

This is why we need more diversity of platforms, and more user/participant ownership.

Zoom refusing to allow SFSU to broadcast a Leila Khaled event on the grounds that she is a terrorist should make everyone very angry.

Beautiful articulation of why this idea of "debate" feels icky to many of us.

RT @ProfSunnySingh@twitter.com

I get regular invites to debate on various platforms. I always say no.

Because debate is an imperialist capitalist white supremacist cis heteropatriarchal technique that transforms a potential exchange of knowledge into a tool of exclusion & oppression.

Hear ye hear ye, it's time to join the Social.coop Revolutionary Vanguard Insurgency, using , pronounced "scurvy." We are sick of our corrupt and vile bylaws (that I co-drafted, admittedly). The time has come to tear them down and replace them with a bolder, nobler, juster experiment in cooperation!

But wait, what is that?

Sometimes good ideas can be found on Twitter. This from Austin is just brilliant: the top earning Patreon creators could (should?) use their clout as leverage to gain either an ownership stake or cash. 💪🏼

re: Patreon's $1.3b valuation
@amandapalmer@twitter.com @rac@twitter.com @_health_@twitter.com @ZOLAJESUS@twitter.com and all other musicians on Patreon- you should use your ability to leave the platform as leverage and negotiate equity or cash. You built that value! Don't let it all go to investors. They would fold instantly

If you feel the need to vote in order to avert the immediate threat of fascism, by all means do so... in the meantime, we have a new society to build.
