If you're in the US, the #NH Community Loan Fund is aiming to raise $12MM in new social investment capital by June 30 to help finance their largest mobile home park #coop conversion to date (more than 1k units of affordable housing). Our #CoopInvestmentClub is currently voting on investing a few $k, and details on investment terms are here for those interested: https://www.communityloanfund.org/how-you-can-help/invest
#Introduction Hi folks! Great to be here! Had been looking to join social.coop for quite a while now. I'm very interested in the appropriate application of technology to the cooperative space.
Resonates with what I've been seeing - UBI is way for tech ppl to avoid grappling with the consequences of their actions. https://medium.com/s/free-money/universal-basic-income-is-silicon-valleys-latest-scam-fd3e130b69a0
A software cooperative near me is hiring a new developer - part-time with potential to grow to full-time and co-ownership! Women, people of color, and under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. Deadline March 1st.
Hey #SocialCoop brain trust: what is the best #coop membershiop management system that you're aware of. Was talking to my local food co-op's membership manager, and she feels there's a lack of good options in the space, so they have a nightmarishly customized CiviCRM. but she'd prefer something else.
This has me thinking again about the #CoApp idea I tooted out a little while back, but wanting to figure out what's already out there before nudging towards reinventing any wheels...
Fucking pissed at white dudes in free software prioritizing exercising their free speech by showing "look, I can make jokes which affect people not like me" and then being like "free software is a movement for everyone"
Nobody has ever questioned whether *I* belong. But I've tried to bring in plenty of other people who left because they didn't feel welcome.
I believe in free software, I want it to be a movement for everyone. Most of these people would say "I do too".
SO FUCKING ACT LIKE IT.
Hey folks! New to the instance, and excited to be here.
I'm a writer, teacher, gardener, anarchist, ramber, reader, etc. Been involved in various cooperatives for 15 years or so, and committed to the structure.
Beginning June 11, no more free API key for Google Maps (now Google Maps Platform) if you don't provide a credit card.
A lot of custom Google maps that have been created over the years will likely no longer work.
A good day to reflect on Paine.
“Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer.”

Is anybody aware of any platform coops for artists - portfolio, commissions, print-on-demand, craft sales, things like that? #socialcoop
New blog post: When Visual Chatbot is wrong, it just keeps digging itself a hole.
Visual Chatbot is so much fun.

social.coop is a cooperatively-run corner of the Fediverse. The instance is democratically governed by its members, who generally share an interest in the co-op model, but topics of discussion range widely.
Our instance is supported by sliding scale contributions of $1-10/mo made via Open Collective. You must have an active Open Collective account to apply for membership; you may set one up here
