Ok, so this isn't the most visually exciting piece of video content GEO has ever created, but listening to Jessica Gordon-Nembhard speak is always worth the time.
2018 was quite the year. In this post we reflect on the ups and downs and our intentions for 2019.
The results are in for the members to serve on the #CiviCRM Committee to establish more democratic governance over the project.
Toot, toot ... and we're off! Hi Mastodon community. We're so excited there's this open source and decentralised social network to be a part of. It aligns nicely with our values. We believe in having open source alternatives to all the big names out there 😉

Social and labour movements and indigenous groups are organizing self-determined alternatives.
My new paper tries to identify some of what is lost as market-based "sharing economy" platforms increasing replace socially-oriented systems based on actual sharing: https://mako.cc/copyrighteous/what-we-lose-when-we-move-from-social-to-market-exchange (The paper was led by @notconfusing who will present it at @CSCW next month!)
Portside.org & the Fediverse questions
1. Would you follow them if they posted their articles here?
2. Would you comment on articles they posted? Would you be more likely to post if your comment was shared back via webmentions? (https://indieweb.org/Webmention)
3. Anything else Portside could do to further independent journalism and the fediverse?
My mind is a bit blown by learning about the “Drupal Gutenberg” project to make the #Gutenberg editor be a block editor on top of #Drupal. Rather than just being for #WordPress, one of the people spoke about Gutenberg as the “editor for the open web”.
I like that vision! And I like working with Gutenberg as an editor.
[NOTE: I don’t use Drupal myself. I’m building sites on #WordPress. I just think this is a great development.]
👋 😍 🤓
ok wow! amazing! And oof, sorry for the late reply to this thread we started awhile ago. Time to up our mastodon game. lol
The good folks at @agaric put together this handy-dandy list of #FreeSoftware for daily business use:
Also, we know that how a company account relates to the #fediverse is a bit of unchartered territory. There's also justified concern with protecting this space from the consumer mindset and commercialism that dominates corporate platforms.
As a coop we'll try and tread lightly and be sensitive to this. (feedback on behavior welcomed!)
Maybe we should have held off on our second toot from being about a service we're offering? 🤔 😬
If you maintain a #Drupal site that could use an upgrade, we're doing a free Q&A this Friday 8/17 at 10am ET on how to migrate to Drupal 8.
and holding an all day training at #DrupalEurope on 9/10

social.coop is a cooperatively-run corner of the Fediverse. The instance is democratically governed by its members, who generally share an interest in the co-op model, but topics of discussion range widely.
Our instance is supported by sliding scale contributions of $1-10/mo made via Open Collective. You must have an active Open Collective account to apply for membership; you may set one up here
