With the Big Tech oligarchs taking more and more power, the time has come to reflect and mobilise more people into action.
Here's my article about that: https://freeknowledge.eu/bigtech-transition-to-sovereignty

And why would public administrations need to help, invest in and support this transition?
For many reasons, but #sovereignty is an important one. Over the years, our politicians have given away the initially open, public internet and allowed it to become largely privatised in the hands of only a few mega corporations. Aparently tech wasn't such an important topic to look critically at its governance, at who owns and controls it.
Now that the alarm bells are ringing, it's time to build back a better digital infrastructure. One that is public like the public highway, but different, in that it is built and maintained collectively.
Public policy and public admin should invest seriously to make us sovereign again. We, civil society, the commons and cooperative movements contribute to it. But we need governments to take their responsibility.
