5 more days for our social.coop poll!
What kinds of co-op enthusiasts/practitioners/scholars reside among us?
Do you already have plans for early November? You might want to reconsider.

#introduction Musician, academic here. Most importantly for this place, I sit on the board of directors for my housing co-op and have put a considerable amount of thought into the housing co-op model over the last year or so. It's how I can afford, as an artist, to stay in Toronto. Wisdom across the housing co-op sector is a huge part of how I can help make my home co-op better, and I look forward to dipping my toes into this space.
What is social.coop? Who are we (it's members)? How do we contribute?
We've started a thread on loomio, where we will post one question every couple of weeks that will help us to get to know each other as members, with the objective of using this understanding of each other, our motivations and expectations to launch the next phase of social.coop.
Second question: What role(s) do you have in the co-op movement?
Living in a place where a significant chunk of the economy is tourism-based, got to thinking recently about the role that #coops can play building community wealth and minimizing extraction in tourist economies.
Anyone have a recommendation as to a good introduction to #TourismEconomics as I proceed further down this hole?
Just had a fun chat on co-ops, ESOPs, and Kelsoism with #SocialCoop's own @mattcropp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se0cnxytBuU&feature=youtu.be

CWG Ops Team Updates
1. @alanz is stepping back from the operations team due to personal life changes. Thanks for your good work, Alan! this means we have two open seats on the Ops Team, so if you are a #SocialCoop interested in helping moderate our instance, please reach out!
2. As a follow-up to the recent survey, we will soon start posting questions to the general membership 2x/month on Loomio. Keep an eye out for the first one soon!
Heads up that we have suspended the new instance kiwifarms.cc, which is an instance recently launched by a forum devoted to online stalking and harassment. Thanks to @benhr for bringing it to our attention.
social.coop defederation announcement - gab.com
In an effort to better understand our community and strengthen ties, volunteers on the community working group are currently running a member survey. They are using a "snowballing"-type networking approach in which members reach out to other members. Please help by doing the survey and helping spread the word.
If you have strong objections to the survey, feel free to share them.
I hope we will all take the "good enough to try" approach.

Hey there social.coop folks (and hello again fediverse). I've been on mastodon.social recently but I'm excited to see what's happening here. Hoping to find and share resources on #coops in general, but I'm particularly interested in tech co-ops, small-scale farm/garden co-ops and the role that co-ops play in social, economic and environmental justice causes. I'll probably also toot a bit about #permaculture #design #gardening #regenerativeAg #webdev #nature and maybe #soccer
Call for Community Working Group Ops Team Candidates
The vote passed to re-authorize the Community Working Group Operations Team, and the next step is to recruit new team members! Of the 5 seats, one is definitely open, and two other members are willing to stay on, but also game to step aside if there is sufficient interest.
If you're a co-op member and want to throw your hat in the ring to help with modding, etc., please respond to this poll: https://www.loomio.org/p/2ZRP7ypo/interested-in-applying-to-be-a-member-of-the-community-working-group-operations-team-
Social.coop stats for the week!

1523 interactions this week
We also have a new member! Welcome @ssvette :)
social.coop is a cooperatively-run corner of the Fediverse. The instance is democratically governed by its members, who generally share an interest in the co-op model, but topics of discussion range widely.
Our instance is supported by sliding scale contributions of $1-10/mo made via Open Collective. You must have an active Open Collective account to apply for membership; you may set one up here
