Thanks to @emi @Matt_Noyes @alanz @LeoSammallahti & @mattcropp for being willing to take on the Ops Team member roles, and to @TheScienceRobot, @mike_hales and @wu_lee for volunteering for the "at large" roles.
There's much good capacity-building work to tackle... 🙌

The Ops Team framework proposal has passed! We are now collecting expressions of interest for five slots on the initial ops team for a six month term if you're interested in helping with the social side of #SocialCoop's operations, please respond to the linked poll by next Saturday: https://www.loomio.org/p/5ShIjVJb/call-for-candidates-for-the-community-working-group-ops-team
Following tonight's call there is a proposal in the #SocialCoop Community Working Group dealing with the creation of formal operations team roles that will receive a (very, to start) modest stipend for the work. The vote will be open for 6 days, and, if it passes, will be followed by a call for candidates, so please weigh in!

#SocialCoop members, 3 items:
- The Code of Conduct passed the vote and is now the policy of our #coop. If you have not yet, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with it here: https://git.coop/social.coop/community/docs/wikis/code-of-conduct/Code-of-Conduct-V3-Release-Candidate-1
- Following tonight's call, there is a proposal live to form a "Co-op Regeneration Team" empowered to direct operational and policy matters for the next six months. Weigh in!
I'm going to get in a day early (Thursday) and am going to try to pull together an informal #CoopFinance nerd dinner gathering that evening.
Also, we should have a social.coop #tootup if there's critical mass...

I've started a thread to discuss the process for selecting the founding members of the #SocialCoop Community Working Group Operations Team: https://www.loomio.org/d/zgqjho9Y/cwg-initial-ops-team-selection-process
I've sketched out some initial ideas, and am interested to hear others' thoughts!
How are folks managing using more than one mastodon account on desktop?
I'm going to try to start inhabiting the @SocialCoop account in preparation for passing it among the CWG ops team once it is constituted, but the standard mastodon interface seems to support being logged into only one profile at a time without easy toggling.
The co-operative values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity could easily have been used to write the #introduction to the future many envisioned when the World Wide Web went live. Although today we are far removed from this vision, projects like #SocialCoop and the #IndieWeb offer us a way back to an open, people-focused web. I am pleased to be involved.
Happy one year anniversary to #socialcoop! Big thanks to all those who made the original Medium article happen (https://medium.com/open-collective/social-coop-a-cooperative-decentralized-social-network-c10980c9ed91) that brought a lot of people to this instance. Proud of what we're building together. :)
If you want to see the Facebook thread that most directly (there were schemes and ideas beforehand) resulted in #SocialCoop, check this #PrimarySource: https://www.facebook.com/groups/p2p.open/permalink/1448639075180267/
It's interesting to see what concerns at the time (2017) are still discussed, and what seems to have faded from consciousness since then (in particular, concerns about the same handle on multiple instances).
Also, #DmytriKeleiner has popped onto the zombie thread for some light trolling... :P
To anyone at #socialcoop who has yet to join and engage in a Loomio working group come on down!
You are wanted and you are welcome.
Discussions around finance and governance aren't always the sexiest on the surface but are very much the bedrock a happy healthy community is built on.
Here is an official account for our instance to communicate as a collective, for announcements, etc.
social.coop is a cooperatively-run corner of the Fediverse. The instance is democratically governed by its members, who generally share an interest in the co-op model, but topics of discussion range widely.
Our instance is supported by sliding scale contributions of $1-10/mo made via Open Collective. You must have an active Open Collective account to apply for membership; you may set one up here
