Thanks to @mattcropp for this brilliant article where I found about this fascinating fact and was one of the things that sparked my interest toward coops:
Great idea, you only get the free drink if you visit five other independent local coffee shops. #disloyalty
!! Welcome!! great to see you here. Soon our instance -- social.coop -- will be open and, if you want, you can join us in our cooperative!
@emi is here too.
The custom on Mastodon is to post a self-intro so people know a bit more about you and your interests (no FB algorithm to do the work!)
OpenAudio es como el Grooveshark de la cultura libre, con miles de canciones con Creative Commons. Es una instancia de la red descentralizada Funkwhale que permite conectar diversas plataformas de audio a través del fediverso https://open.audio/library
"If you don't have the festival now or print the newspaper today, you simply lose the grouping, which is not a building in need of restoration but a movement in need of continuation. If a dancer stops dancing, the dance is finished. No inertia will carry the show forward."
#SocialCoop is a movement in need of continuation, in this sense. Both here and in our other spaces (Loomio, Matrix, Git.coop, OpenColective, Zoom, Reading Group, Happy Hour...)

Beautiful interview with @CadwellTurnbull on his new co-op sci-fi story: https://www.theverge.com/2019/1/23/18188083/cadwell-turnbull-interview-ai-climate-change-better-worlds
Going through the messy process of trying to come up with company values at the start up org where I currently work. Anyone have good resources on #workplaceculture and #workplacevalues? Of course I'm coming in strong with the #coop #nonhierarchical #liberatory vibes and I'd love to convert my team ;)
If I want to tell someone about an alternative to Google Maps *in a browser*, where should I send them? OSM.org is extremely slow these days, and they display tons of notes by default. And I've recently learned that it is not supposed to be a front end for end users, just a repo for the data and a place to edit it.
So what's the real maps.google.com alternative for people just needing a map, travel reccommendations, etc?
social.coop is a cooperatively-run corner of the Fediverse. The instance is democratically governed by its members, who generally share an interest in the co-op model, but topics of discussion range widely.
Our instance is supported by sliding scale contributions of $1-10/mo made via Open Collective. You must have an active Open Collective account to apply for membership; you may set one up here
