I am invited to run a workshop at an event hosted by prodii.com on building in .

One of the questions we'll explore is:

*How do you build trust digitally?
How do you create trust & collaboration with people you don’t know and have never meet in real life?

What do you think? What kind behaviours & conditions are supportive?

Who else here knows a lot about this?

@Manuela

Hanging out in txt chat rooms on IRC, matrix, xmpp etc. etc. (See how I avoid mentioning propriety chat room services😊)

@epilepticrabbit says video community calls are great (I'd kind of agree but often have tech problems - old devices, poor or limited connections, no really good FLOSS solution yet) definately get higher 'quality' comms/understanding with voice or visual

We did a session on remote working & culture building at the most recent VEOC conference, and one of the things the panelists agreed on was the importance of even occasional in-person face-time to cement relationships.

Another thing I've been considering is if online gaming could be an opportunity for this sort of trust building? Working together in situations where the stakes are simulated surfaces different sides of folks.

@mattcropp @Matt_Noyes @clhendricksbc @emi @mayel @rbenjamin @ntnsndr Matt, thanks, yes, the face-time seems to be something essential. I love the idea about games. I have worked on a collaborative board game that could be taken to the virtual world. We got stuck in prototyping stage, but I would love to pick it up one day. Also for the Vanilla Way Network we are working on a playful self-on-boarding process for members based on a story and archetypes.

Apropos this, it would be cool to figure out a time for a multiplayer game (or games) of (a classic free FOSS turn-based strategy game) with a voice chat server running.

To test the efficacy of such encounters on community cohesion, of course... 😋
