@Julie Oh my God, that is really the core of problem, now I do understand why so many voters elected thar big Liar as their president! He can tell any stupidity and they believe him!
And another problem is “I have MY OPINION” and nobody can steal it from me. And that opinion can be any stupidity and they are ready to fight for it.
@Pablito Most people can tell you the difference between fact and opinion, but too few understand the difference between opinions grounded in evidence and random thoughts people have about the world.
@Julie @RickiTarr It's easy to scoff at numbers like this, but just anecdotally I know it's this bad, if not worse. I work a public-facing job and I interact regularly with adult clients who hand me paperwork they've been given without *any* idea what it says or how to interpret it.
There's often an excuse: "I forgot my glasses, can you tell me what this says…" etc. But after a while the body language and the facial expressions become easier to read (no pun intended).
So without fear, I will put a bumper sticker saying, "Odds are you're a traitorous idiot but you can't read anyway."

That means only 25% of adults in the USA are as literate as a twelve-year-old or better
