Oh cool, a list I hate even more than the NYT 100 best books of the 21st Century list. I agree with maybe 20 of these. Another 5 or so I look forward to reading. Where’s Sheri Tepper, you cowards?!? James Tiptree Jr? Vonda McIntyre? Lois Bujold? Élisabeth Vonarburg?

Like, Never Let Me Go isn’t even the best SF book by Ishiguro…
My favourite is not in the list. I'm not naming it, though, as I harbour an insane ambition to get the film rights for it, and write a script...
@Walrus My favourite(s) neither.
@CommonMugwort Hmpf. I agree with your assessment — there are about 20-25 books I’d have on such a list. And I’m always surprised at how underappreciated both Ted Sturgeon and Fritz Leiber are when it comes time to make SF cannon.
In addition to your names, I’d say a list like this without Harlan Ellison or Joanna Russ are not worth the pixels they’re printed with.
@fgraver I once tried to run a one-woman theatre company to stage Science Fiction. I called it Sturgeon’s Law.
And I really need to re-read Lieber. Also Russ. Of Ellison, all I know is the irascibility and the most famous short stories.
@CommonMugwort Sturgeons Law is a great name for a science fiction theatre company!
I have a lot of favourite writers, but Ellison might be among my favourites among them. Angry Candy, Shatterday, Deathbird Stories, and Slippage are all great collections.
@CommonMugwort I was looking for Joan Vinge, myself, and didn’t find her.
@aprilfollies Oh, quite right, yes!
