New business rule: if someone schedules a surprise meeting, they have to include the threat level. For example, "Bob 1:1, nothing bad" or "Mary 1:1, your job is safe."

@BritishKoalaTea@social.coop They don't do this because they want to reduce the chance of an angry employee doing something to hurt the company in between getting the meeting invite and losing their work credentials.

In exchange, they give employees frequent anxiety.

@neia I hate that people have to be anxious. I've had several people that I had to ping for quick emergency non-scary meetings and they all commented on the "nothing bad" tagline as a relief.

@BritishKoalaTea I had a job where the emergency meeting was called at 4 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. We learned that half the staff was let go, they were in the other room.

About a year later, my department had a new boss. She called an emergency meeting at 4 pm on a Friday afternoon. Panic set in. We showed up and she had dinner and drinks for us to go home early because we had finished a huge project! She had not been told about the prior emergency meeting, so she had no idea why we looked so tattered. She never called an emergency meeting again without letting us know exactly what it was about.

@somcak yikes! No wonder people were stressed.

@BritishKoalaTea Different times, different place, but where I once worked the business rule was: no meeting was attended unless the agenda was distributed to everyone at least 3 days in advance.

@BritishKoalaTea "Cindy 1:1 don't make any major life decisions"
