In the context of all the #privacy discussions going on recently, please share with non-techie friends and family that #Zoom calls where someone says, "It's okay, we're not recording this," are NOT private.
With ~$99 worth of apps, it's super easy to record almost any video on your screen, with accompanying audio. Even though it's easy to see that your Zoom call organizer isn't recording, that doesn't mean anyone else in the call isn't (and you wouldn't know).
And remember that Zoom itself, in their T&C's, says that they will use all of the data flowing through their servers, as fodder for their AI training.
This means that Zoom are recording everything.
This is why i use the social.coop instance of Meet.coop :D
@BillySmith Unfortunately that doesn’t work, that same software lets you record any part of your screen, so those meetings are just as easy to grab if someone wants to.
Yes, but at least it means that it isn't being done by the server. :D
Also, i stopped using Skype, as they were open to data-injection attacks from call participants.
It's why i occasionally had strangers dialing me at random when using Skype on Windows, but when i used the Linux versions of Skype to examine the calls, i found Windows malware being uploaded in the background of the calls.
And this was pre-Covid before Skype peaked'n'declined. :D
@BillySmith That's true! I didn't realize Zoom was training everything on its ai, but of course it is. SIGH. I'm really glad we have meet.coop.
